The Magic of Scribbles

Ever come across a toddler with big captivating eyes, wide smiles and immense self pride, holding a sheet or paper of their ‘Work’... the work which in essence is compilation of various colours or elegantly crafted ‘SCRIBBLES’ in adult language!

This ‘work’ may or may not have a title and do not get surprised if the Title changes on an hourly basis. Children do not paint or create with a title in mind, they are engrossed in the process of Creation!…Experimenting with colours, textures, different media... they change the effects to vary outcomes... building upon it with various materials.. developing strategies to build it further. And the outcome of this entire process is Sheer Happiness and Satisfaction! but they have also learnt how things change and what happens when they combine different colours or media!

Children learn in different ways.. and one of the key aspects of learning is the process in itself... But to start this process of learning a child needs to feel emotionally secure and happy… they need to be in an environment that is Conducive to Learning!

Teaching them to cope with failure, setbacks and disappointments will help them to emerge stronger, emotionally resilient and also develop the ability to collaborate.

Musical Chairs… ever watched how different children react to the game… a great learning experience!

Failure should be an option because, every Failure brings you a step closer to your Success

Engaging with the child in their play and providing a stimulating environment with resources they can explore will make children ACTIVE & INDEPENDENT Learners. Children make connections or create their own thinking models when they are given the time and space to experiment and explore..

Walk in the woods, slow down and see how children like to touch, see, smell, hear, observe the environment around them and proudly share their discoveries. Taking their surroundings in whilst enjoying the process of learning and discovery. 

Challenge them to improvise their ‘work’ or ‘creativity’ will raise their intellectual capacities, building courage for constructive criticism and growth-mindset.. which gives rise to REFLECTIVE Learners. Empower them with the ability to think, review and contemplate on how they can further enhance themselves and making their Learning a more conscious process…. Giving rise to children who will have the audacity to face challenges with unending self belief and the urge to do more.

Simply learning isn’t enough..but what one makes of that learning is the true essence of the whole journey of learning. And in this journey of Learning.. we require various skills to empower ourselves and perform beyond capabilities!! A discussion for another time.. 😊
